Bikesafe

Bikesafe is North Yorkshire Police’s rider workshop which aims to continue to reduce the number of motorcycle casualties across North Yorkshire.

The workshop bridges the gap between the basic skill level that riders achieve after passing their DSA bike test and the further training that enables riders to combine tremendous enjoyment with a much higher level of personal safety.

The workshop consists of two modules and takes place at Vale House, Thirsk Industrial Park, Thirsk YO7 3BX, on Sunday's from 9.30am until 4.00pm:

  • Module one is an informal presentation and discussion involving the use of an interactive DVD. This workshop will give some tips on how to read bends correctly, improving observation skills, filtering, slow speed control, overtaking and group riding.

  • Module two is a two hour assessed ride. There will be an observer and a maximum of two students per group. Initially there is a demonstration of advanced riding by the observer who is a qualified advanced rider. This is followed by an assessed ride over a scenic route which includes various types of roads and hazards. This ride will enable students to practice tips given in module one. There is no pressure to do anything fancy.

Following the ride, students will be given a debrief and any areas which may need improving will be identified. The advice will be supported with a written assessment covering all elements of the ride and outlining any areas for improvement.

Students receive a goodie bag containing useful publications, two motorcycle DVD 's and a Bikesafe neck buff.
As if all this isn’t enough, students will also receive a £50 discount voucher towards further training with accredited providers.
