Speeding
Excess or inappropriate speed is a major cause of road crashes; contributing to one third of crashes in the UK every year.
That’s more than 720 deaths and 4,550 injuries in the UK every year caused by breaking the speed limit or driving too fast for the conditions. Young drivers are major offenders.
It goes without saying that the faster you drive, the bigger the distance it takes you to stop and the harder you hit.
The consequences of speeding:
- If you are caught speeding the penalty is a minimum £60 fine and three penalty points. For excessive speeding this can be increased to a £2,000 fine, six points and a driving ban.
- North Yorkshire Police are targeting people who break the speed limits and will use every tactic and resource available to them to prosecute speeding motorists in the county.
