Passengers under three years

  • If you carry a child under 3 years of age in the front or rear passenger seat the child must use the correct child restraint. It is illegal to carry a child in a rear facing child seat in the front of a vehicle which is protected by an active frontal air bag.
  • There is only one exception where a child under three years may travel unrestrained in the rear of a vehicle and that is in a licensed taxi or licensed hire car, if a child restraint is not available.
