95 Alive partners with Black Rat Fund Charity Rideout

 

 The Black Rat Fund want their Charity Rideout not only to be a massive success for all concerned, but also want it to be an incident free event. The Black Rat Fund have therefore agreed to work in partnership with 95 Alive and a number of other bike safety groups in order to promote road safety and provide a platform to promote safe biking.

Christmas Drink Drug Drive Launch

There are 287 reasons why this years Christmas drink and drug drive campaign in York and North Yorkshire is launched today.  That's the number of people killed and seriously injured in the past five years because of drink driving.

CAR SEAT CRUSH – ROAD SAFETY WEEK

24th November 2009

The big guns have been brought in to make sure second hand and unreliable children's car seats can never be used again.

A  60 ton Challenger tank was used to ensure a collection of children's seats were well and truly crushed.  They had been gathered by North Yorkshire County Council's Road Safety Officers working with the 95 Alive York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership.

Roadshow for Business Drivers takes to the road

3rd November 2009

Twenty deaths on the roads every week involve people at work.  Collisions are now the biggest cause of work related deaths.

95 Alive, the York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership, is organising a series of roadshows across the County to help businesses and managers appreciate the risks on the roads, and work towards limiting the dangers.  The idea is to help companies large and small develop ways of managing occupational road risk and to understand the new Corporate Manslaughter Bill.
Any company that uses vehicles,or people who drive themselves for work, are invited to come along and find out more.

Road safety CD released for migrant workers

23 September 2009

A new CD aimed at helping migrant workers stay safe on roads in North Yorkshire has been produced by road safety campaigners.

 

Nine people have died in collisions involving migrant workers on the County’s roads since 2006.  The CDs been produced by 95 Alive the York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership.  It’s been made in Polish initially but the aim is to translate it into up to six other languages by the end of the year

Competition launched to spread road safety message

Students from across North Yorkshire are being asked to get involved and get creative to help develop a major new road safety advertising campaign.

The 95 Alive York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership has launched competitions for young people aged 11 to 16 and for college or university students to help develop a range of new radio adverts to raise awareness of road safety issues on the county’s roads.

TV veteran takes the wheel for road safety

Veteran broadcaster Andy Kluz is using his talents to help North Yorkshire County Council and the 95 Alive Road Safety Partnership to keep older drivers safe behind the wheel.
      
Andy has made a DVD with road safety officers from the County Council  which will be used to demonstrate how drivers over 50 can carry on driving safely and with confidence.

Residents asked to help spread road safety message
9 August 2009 
Help us to make North Yorkshire’s roads safer! - That’s the message to people across the county who are being asked to join forces and help improve safety on the roads.

The 95 Alive York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership wants residents, businesses and community groups to get involved in their campaigns by distributing and displaying posters, banners and other materials in their offices and meeting places to support the campaigns they are running.

 
 
95 Alive launch summer drink drive campaign
8 July 2009
A new hard hitting campaign to stop drink drivers has been launched in North Yorkshire - backed by the Police, the 95 Alive Road Safety Partnership and, the Black Sheep Brewery.
 
The aim is to shake up people who may have been drinking and driving for years and getting away with it and to make younger drivers realise it’s not an option.
 

People are being encouraged to “Shop a killer – Stop a killer” and give information about drink drivers to the police and Crimestoppers.

Volunteers Become Victims To Save Lives

On 31 March 2009 the 95 Alive York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership held a photography session with the winners of the road safety model competition, at RAF Leeming.
 
We’d like to say a huge thank you to RAF Leeming for their support, use of their premises and the tour they put together for the models.
 
We’d also like to thank all of the models who took part on the day and who you will see featured in our distraction and seat belt campaigns – Anna Hare, James Hare, Rosie Hare, Harry Hare, Tom Hare, Nathaniel Todd, James Stickley and Kristy Small, all from North Yorkshire, who gave up their time free of charge to support this good cause – thank you!
 
Also, thank you to Hayley Greenhalgh and Gina Walsh from Craven College who came along on the day to do Kristy’s casualty make-up to show how she could look with just minor injuries after a road crash – thanks girls!
 
It was a fun day for all with photography, a tour, and also, cycle training by Road Safety Officer Kevin Pratt.

Council launches search for faces of road safety
30 January 2009Road Safety groups from across North Yorkshire have today launched a search for local residents to become the faces of new road safety campaigns in the county.

North Yorkshire County Council and the 95 Alive York & North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership is currently developing a range of new campaigns aimed at reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on North Yorkshire’s roads.

As part of this they want local residents to come forward and say why they want to appear in the campaigns on posters, billboards and leaflets highlighting the messages of the road safety partnership.

The campaigns being developed will aim to increase the use of seatbelts and highlight the dangers of distractions whilst driving.

Dramatic reduction in people killed and seriously injured in North Yorkshire

The number of people killed and seriously injured on roads in North

Yorkshire was cut by 25% last year.
 
Road casualties are now lower than at any time in the past twenty years. In 2008…… 43 people were killed and 493 seriously injured, in 2007….77 people died and 640 were seriously injured.
